The re-election bid of former Imo State Governor, Mr. Ikedi Ohakim, has received another boost with indigenes of Ahiazu Local Government Area in the Diaspora declaring their support for his second term ambition.
Indigenes of Ahiazu resident in the United States of America who rose from an extraordinary meeting in the US at the weekend, voted unanimously to support Ohakim’s re-election as the governor of the state.

The chief organiser, Dr. Kelechi Akpunku, and co-chief organiser in a statement on behalf of the indigenes of Ahiazu in US said the people resorted to supporting the former governor because the 12 wards in the local government area experienced development and received dividends of democracy during his first tenure.
“Our people at home began to feel and see the dividends of democracy during the governorship era of Ohakim. He awarded and completed a five-kilometer road construction from Aforuzzi through Okpounkume to Ama-Barnax.
“In other areas, the same thing happened. The following Imo roads during Ohakim reign which could attest to the dividends of democracy reaching all corners of the state are Ukwuorji-Nworieubi-Atta Junction-Amaimo Afor-Ogbe road 45km; Iho-Ogwa-Amauzari-Amaigbo road 20km; Mbieri-T Junction-Orji-Uratta-Naze road 20km and Ahiara Junction-Okpala road Junction--25km,” he noted.
Expressing optimism that if re-elected, Ohakim would continue the good work he was doing before he lost to the incumbent Governor, Rochas Okorocha, the Imo indigenes said they were already making moves to ensure that his government gets maximum support from the people in the local government area.
“We have started to mobilise Ahiazu Local Government Area through our elected executives during Ohakim and Hon. Valentine Echebelem of Ogbor Umueze ward to reach the grassroots for Ohakim’s come back. We are working diligently to deliver all the wards in the area for Ohakim.
“We strongly call on indigenes of the area to vote massively for Ohakim. Our brothers and sisters in Oparanadim Mpam, Nnarambia, Ogbe, Ogbor Umueze, Umunomo/Umuchieze, Oru/Lude, Otulu/Aguneze, Obohia/Ekwerazu Town, Okirika Nweke, Amuzi/Ihenweorie and Okirika Nwenkwo wards to strongly support Ohakim.
“During his tenure, Ohakim’s human-oriented programmes were aimed at providing jobs and reducing poverty and they should continue. As a governor, he attracted enormous federal presence to our beloved state and that should continue too,” the people noted.
