NIS arrests 300 suspected illegal immigrants in Anambra

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Anambra has arrested about 300 suspected illegal immigrants in the state.
The Comptroller of Immigration in the area, Mr Darlington Chude, disclosed this to newsmen in Awka on Thursday.

Chude said that the aliens were “mopped-up” in Awka North and South, Nnewi North and South, and Onitsha North and South local council areas of the state where they were mainly located.
“The mop-up exercise which is a continuous one is a programme of the Immigration Service to rid the country of foreign elements ahead of the 2015 elections.
“We discovered during their profiling that majority of them, who do not have anything doing, came into the country from Chad, Senegal, Cameroon and the Niger republics without any documents,” he said.
The comptroller said that after the suspected illegal immigrants were screened, they would be moved to the NIS head office in Abuja from where they would be repatriated to their respective countries.
“Our mission is to complement the efforts of the Federal Government on security by ensuring that all immigrants without travel documents are repatriated,” he said.
