NYSC boss urges corps members to sustain election credibility

Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Johnson Olawunmi, on Monday in Lagos, urged corps members to sustain the credibility the scheme has given to the election process in the country.
Addressing the 2,018 male and female 2014 Batch B Stream II corps members deployed in Lagos State at the temporary Orientation Camp at Iyana Ipaja, the DG said the good news of the election process in Nigeria is the reliability of corps members had given to the exercise within and outside the country.


He enjoined the corps members to shun all forms of inducements by politicians, saying that the entire 160 million populations of Nigeria and Nigerians in the Diaspora were looking forward to repeat of the excellent participation of corps members in the 2015 elections.
“Election in Nigeria has continued to gain credibility not only in Nigeria but across the world because of the calibre of corps members involved in the process. Next election is the 2015 general elections. All of you will be called out to be part of the election.
“As good youths who have seen the four walls of universities and tertiary institutions and certified fit in character and learning, we expect the highest standards from you,” he added.
He assured the corps members that adequate training and election materials would be provided before and during the elections, saying that allowances due would be paid as well.
The DG appealed to the corps members to ensure absolute neutrality in elections as unbiased election officials by not accepting any form of unnecessary niceties from politicians.
Apart from presenting gifts to the orientation camp band, and the cultural group, the DG also promised to present a fat cow to corps members towards a successful camp fire night.
The State Co-ordinator, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, earlier in her welcome address urged the corps members to take advantage of the skill acquisition programme introduced by the present administration as fortress against unemployment in the country.
