Two suspected drug dealers arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on June 11, 2014, Oluwole James and Ifon Ime, have confessed to the crime.
The suspects’ confession followed their arraignment before Justice James Tsoho of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday.
The NDLEA had accused 41-year-old Oluwole and 21-year-old Ime of dealing unlawfully in 2.6 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, a narcotic substance similar to heroine.
The two men were said to have been apprehended at the Railway Line area of Apapa, Lagos.
Both were charged by the agency with one count in relation to the offence.
While informing the court of the charge on Tuesday and seeking for the suspects’ arraignment, the prosecution counsel, J.I. Aernan, emphasised that Oluwole and Ime acted contrary to Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2014.
Upon reading the one count to them, the two men promptly pleaded guilty to the crime.
Justice Tsoho then adjourned till November 18, 2014 for summary trial.
