The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)  has said  President Goodluck Jonathan’s declaration that he would implement the recommendations of the National Conference has shown that  he is a nation-builder determined to move Nigeria forward even at the risk of his own life.
The party said Jonathan stands out as a leader with large heart, having tolerated all the efforts of the opposition geared towards destabilising his administration.
Reacting to the president’s declaration for second term in office, the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, said in keeping with the party’s resolve to endorse Jonathan’s second term bid, APGA will mobilise all the necessary support to ensure  he wins the next year’s presidential election.

Umeh, who spoke in an interview with THISDAY on Wednesday, said Jonathan’s declaration speech had re-enforced the fact that he is well focused on what needs to be done to put Nigeria on a good footing.
“With his promise to implement the report of the National Conference, he has demonstrated that he is a nation builder, and by accepting the challenge to tackle the problems facing Nigeria that need a national dialogue to resolve, he has shown that he is a president that is focused on the future of the nation, not just the present, therefore, we are happy that we endorsed him and asked him to run and he has accepted to run,” he said.
While commending President Jonathan for exhibiting an uncommon courage to declare his second term bid for the presidency, the party said the president remains the only bridge to the nation’s  unity.
“APGA congratulates President Jonathan for accepting the numerous calls on him from various groups including APGA to declare and run for president for a second term in the 2015 general election. APGA is very happy that he has officially declared his intention to run in 2015.
“I listened to his declaration speech and my belief in him got more re-enforced that he is well focused on what to be done to put Nigeria on a good footing apart from his promises on security, job creation and improved infrastructural development, Jonathan represents today the only bridge to national unity,” he said.
Umeh however said the support of APGA is predicated on the belief that if Jonathan wins the election, “his government will be fair to all parts of Nigeria and that our party will also share in the opportunities that will be available in his government,” adding that Jonathan’s victory in 2015 will eliminate our ethnic and regional divisions.
