A political pressure group, the G15, has applauded President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to accede to ‘popular’ demand to run for the 2015 presidential election, saying the decision is in line with the aspirations of the vast majority of Nigerians.
Deputy Director-General of the group, Emmanuel Akumagba, made the remark in Abuja shortly before arriving the Eagle Square for the presidential declaration, noting that with his acceptance, all ongoing projects are sure to be completed with new ones to be undertaken across the country.
Akumagba, who extolled the leadership qualities of the President, said the Boko Haram insurgency is just a passing phase in the political history of Nigeria like the Maitasine and other militant groups and called on the President to take drastic action to contain their menace, as innocent citizens are being killed daily.
The Warri based G15 deputy director appealed to Northern leaders and political elite to call the insurgents to order, as their continued criminal action is capable of tearing the country along religious line, even as he asked the leaders of the sect to rethink on their action in comparison with the humanistic stance of Islam.
Akumagba, who led thousands of Deltans to the formal declaration by the President, advised the opposition parties in the country to play by the rules of the game and desist from making inflammatory statement capable of inciting the public and painting the President in bad light.
He said: “Being in the opposition does not mean you can never see anything good in the Jonathan administration. If you must criticise as in all democracies, you must exhibit some high level of modicum and decorum in your use of language”.
He condemned the APC leadership for seeing only failure of government policies without putting forward any reasonable and meaningful suggestion to help the country move forward.
