Jonathan contesting against own wish’

The member representing Lagos Island Constituency 2, in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Wahab Alawiye-King, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan is seeking re-election for the office of the President against his own wish.

Alawiye-King, who spoke in an interview with Daily Independent, noted that although Jonathan has declared his intention to vie for a second term in office, “his body language shows how scared he is. He doesn’t need anyone to tell him he has failed. He knows that already.”
The lawmaker alleged that the President was being pushed to re-contest the seat of the President in 2015 by those benefiting from government, just as he insisted that the election would not be an easy ride for Jonathan the way it happened in 2011.
Alawiye-King, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, stated that the President knows he has failed the nation and that it would ordinarily be difficult for him to win the 2015 election.
“He is being prodded, against his wish by those who are reaping from today’s bad governance. On the day of his declaration, you heard him promising to fight corruption as if he is just a fresh contestant. You heard him promising to end insurgency as if it just became clear to him that the country is on the verge of collapse.
“The question that needs to be answered by Jonathan and those benefiting from his government without conscience is, if this man could not fight corruption in the five years he has spent, is it now we would believe him to tackle it?”
