VERY GOOD WORK UNDONE

Arsenal FC v Montpellier Herault SC - UEFA Champions League-1449128

I don’t feel like thinking about Arsenal. I thought i’d be more rational this morning but i’m still mightily pissed.

We let a 3 goal lead slip…we did a Liverpool, and boy did i laugh at them when they did something similar last season. But i don’t want to talk about the GAME, we had a lovely first half, a lovely hour actually and then it all turned to shit. So prior to this we had won three GAMES on the bounce and kept clean sheets in our last two games, but we’ve now gone on to dent our slowly rising confidence. This was the GAME that was meant to not only secure qualification and give us a fighting chance of winning the group, but also to solidify our confidence. It’ll have been four straight wins in all competitions and that’s a good thing regardless of who we played against and that would have done wonders for our confidence.
Now we play Swansea away at the weekend with question marks over our heads. We also have all but forfeited winning the group and knowing our rotten luck, come December we’ll probably be paired against Real Madrid in the second round and it’ll be game over.
But there were some positives; Alexis was great as usual and i really loved the way Chamberlain played till he came off. You can see that he really is trying to learn from Alexis. He’s exhibiting the same energy and drive and desire to make something happen. I can’t say there was anything else good to report from the game and we have to find a way to pick ourselves up after this. We can’t switch off during games, we managed games so well last season, in fact the only games where the opponents made a comeback i can remember was against Aston Villa and Swansea, but now we’ve already done this against Man City, Hull and Anderlecht. We play United in another fortnight or so and we really need to get our season back on track. We certainly have the personnel, we just need to make it work.
Every player needs to switched on for 90 minutes. I was really irked by the 3rd goal. In the build up, the Anderlecht player ran towards where he was to cross and Podolski (a player who had just come on not too long ago) was jogging backwards, backing off him, even before the cross and the goal i was already going crazy over that, that it led to a goal was just more annoying.
It’s not the end of the world though, we can redeem ourselves on Sunday and hopefully win the rest of our European GAMES. We’ll still likely be second and therefore will have a hard time in the second round but fingers crossed eh.
