APC aspirants accuse Aregbesola of rejecting primary result

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola

Tension is brewing in some towns in Osun State as some aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the state accused Governor Rauf Aregbesola of rejecting some of the results of the party’s primary. A source close to the party told our correspondent on Thursday that the governor had allegedly rejected the results of some areas where his favourites did not win.

The source said some popular aspirants who enjoyed the support of the governor won but some of them who had no grassroots support were defeated at the modified primary conducted to select the APC candidates.
Another prominent leader of the party, who pleaded not to be named told our correspondent that the incumbent senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District at the Senate, Prof. Sola Adeyeye, won the ticket to go back to the senate for the second term.
He said that former Governor Isiaka Adeleke won in Osun West Senatorial District by defeating Senator Husain Mustapha while Alhaji Sola Lawal, who is the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ogun State, defeated Senator Jide Omoworare in Osun East Senatorial District.
Lawal was said to have polled 17 votes against three votes by Omoworare, but his victory was said to have been rejected by the governor who was said to have preferred the serving senator.
The modified primary was said to have been held at the Government House, Osogbo.
Lawal supporters were said to be mobilising to resist the alleged planned imposition immediately they heard that the governor met with some party leaders after the primary.
The alleged plan to deny Lawal of victory was said to be causing temper to rise in Ile-Ife which is the base of the two APC leaders.
Efforts to speak to Omoworare were unsuccessful as calls put across to his telephone were not answered.
Also, the text sent to him was yet to be responded to as of the time of filing this report.
The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the party, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, denied allegation that the governor upturned the result of the primary
