A member of Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus has disclosed that Jimi Agbaje may pick the governorship ticket of the party for the February 28 governorship election in the state.
The member who did not want his name mentioned because he was not mandated to speak on behalf of the party stated further that Agbaje is most preferred among all the aspirants because of his ability to mobilise people at the grassroots.
“Many people prefer Agbaje because of his ability to carry people along and his impeccable character,” he said.
He further stated that without the ticket of the party Agbaje has been able to visit almost all the local governments and penetrated almost all groups and tribal unions in the state.
“You heard when President Jonathan said that 2015 may be the last opportunity for the party to win the Lagos State governorship; therefore we don’t want to make any mistake this time around in the choice of party flag bearer”.
Daily independent learnt that one of the things that may work in favour of Agbaje is religion. Some leaders of the party do not want to ignore the clamour by some Christian leaders in the state that the next governor of Lagos State should be a Christian.
It is also believed that Agbaje who was the former governorship candidate of Democratic People’s Alliance (DPA) has the financial wherewithal to compete favourably with whoever would emerge as the candidate of the ruling APC in the state.
