Ekiti State Government has warned traders to desist from hawking and displaying their wares along major roads in the state capital.
Speaking during a meeting with representatives of the drivers’ union and other stakeholders, the Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Kayode Oso, lamented the menace of traders on the roads.
Oso said that it was appalling that traffic congestion has persisted in Ado-Ekiti in spite of the expansion of major roads in the city to dual carriageways. He also said that goods displayed along the roads obstructed free flow of traffic and sometimes led to accidents.
Reiterating the resolve of the Fayose administration to decongest the roads, the aide cautioned that officers of the Traffic Management Agency have been mandated to properly control traffic, and they have been authorised to enforce both state and national laws regulating the use of roads.
According to him, appropriate management of road traffic would reduce the incidence and severity of accidents on the state’s roads.
