This platform presents a suggestion for the creation of a new political party, Christened “United People's Vanguard” (UPV), to sustain the momentum and ideals of the Obidient Movement. This proposed platform aims to ensure that the vision championed by H.E. Peter Obi in the 2023 elections evolves into a viable framework for transformative governance. 

UPV is envisioned as a vehicle to amplify the voices of the common citizen, foster inclusivity, and drive socio-economic development across Nigeria.

Balancing Religious Freedom and Constitutional Rights in Oyo State

The push for Sharia law in Oyo State, despite Nigeria’s existing constitution, is driven by a desire to align governance with religious principles, particularly for the Muslim population. While Sharia law is already practiced in the northern part of the country, where the Muslim population is dominant, introducing it in the Southwest, where Muslims are a minority, raises important concerns. The question arises: why implement a system that works in a predominantly Muslim region in an area with a smaller Muslim population, especially in a secular country with a sovereign constitution?

Since the advent of democracy in Nigeria, we have seen a troubling shift away from traditional occupations such as agriculture and craftsmanship. Instead, the political elite have asserted dominance over the country’s natural resources, particularly crude oil, which has led to significant mismanagement and corruption. This has resulted in a myriad of socio-economic issues that plague the nation today.
