Abuja court jails man three months for attempted theft

An Area 1 Court in the FCT on Thursday sentenced a 23-year-old man, Samson Samuel, to three months imprisonment for attempting to steal a laptop from a car.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, who handed down the judgment, however, gave Samuel no option of fine.
Sadiq warned the convict to desist from such crime, saying the sentence will serve as a deterrent to others.
Samuel, whose address is unknown, pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted theft.

The accused had pleaded with the magistrate to tamper justice with mercy.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sergeant Abdul Alhassan, had told the court that on September 26, one Salawu Ademo of Nigerian Customs Service, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, reported the incident at Utako Police Station.
He said the accused used a master key to open the complainant’s Honda Accord car with the intention to steal a laptop before he was apprehended.
Alhassan said during police investigations the accused confessed to the crime and the master key was recovered from him.
He said the offence contravened Section 95 of the Penal Code.
