Fayose, Arise on warpath over Ekiti PDP ward congress

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Ayo Arise, has called on both the state and national leadership of the party to check the alleged excesses of Governor Ayo Fayose before he leads the party into another round of needless crisis in the state.
Arise, who represented Ekiti North Senatorial District between 2007and 2011, alleged that Fayose, in less than a month into his administration, has shown tendencies capable of leading the party in Ekiti into perdition.
Addressing journalists on Thursday at his Oye-Ekiti country home, the former federal legislator accused the governor of appropriating all powers to his office by hand-picking candidates into state and National Assembly positions without recourse to party guidelines.
Arise disclosed that he was surprised that a governor, who enjoyed an overwhelming support of PDP members and special favour from God could forget God so quickly.

He explained that there are several times a governor could support an aspirant without necessarily resorting to an open illegality.
But Fayose has denied the allegation, saying all aspirants would be giving equal opportunities to express their political ambition in the party.
The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Idowu Adelusi, said nobody would be deprived of the rights to contest any political office.
According to him,” Senator Ayo Arise is a leader of the party. If he feels aggrieved or noticed that something is wrong from what he is expected, he should meet with the governor or resort to party mechanism rather than going to the press.
“He is a leader of the party, whose Fayose has respect for and will never do anything injurious to him. I want to assure that only those that emerge through the primaries will be given the tickets”, Fayose said.
Fayose’s defense notwithstanding, the ex-senator declared that he had severed ties with the governor based on the alleged unfortunate development in the party.
