Human rights activists, Nigerian Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday stormed Abeokuta, Ogun State capital to sensitise the electorate on the importance of the Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).
Speaking at the Ogun State Voters’ Awareness Rally/Road Show held at the Panseke area of Abeokuta, founder, Women Arise Change Initiative, Dr. Joe Odumakin, appealed to the electorate to endeavour to register and collect the PVCs, saying, “The PVC is your power”.
She said the PVCs serve as an instrument to decide and exercise their rights during the 2015 elections, stressing, “PVC is our right and we must get the card, the PVC serves as weapon to vote in the 2015.”
She further urged the electorates not to register twice during the Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) exercise coming up from tomorrow till next Monday.
However, representative of INEC Abuja, Head, Publicity and Gender Education, Mrs. Lakunuya Bello, said she was happy to be in Abeokuta to sensitise electorates on the PVC and CVR exercise.
She encouraged the electorates to get involved in the collection of PVC as well as the CVR that will be distributed tomorrow through Wednesday next week, adding, “I am here to support the distribution of the PVC and encourage the electorates to participate in the CVR exercise.”
Speaking on behalf of the State Commissioner for Police, CP Okoye Ikemefuna, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi said the command would ensure zero tolerance to electoral malpractices.
He, therefore, appealed to the electorate to play by the rules of the game.
