Lamido Inaugurates JSU Governing Council

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has inaugurated the 10-man Governing Council of the Jigawa State University (JSU), Kafin Hausa in Dutse.
It has Professor Abubakar Rasheed as Chairman and Dr M.D. Nasir as Secretary while other members include the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Lawan Sani Taura, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, Dr. Abdulhamid Isa Dutse, Alhaji Aliyu Sambo, Professor Rukayyatu Ahmed Rufai,  Dr. Ummu Abdulwahid,  Permanent Secretary, Education, Mallam Abdullahi Hudu  and  that of Finance, Hajiya Habiba Isa Duste as ex-officio respectively
In his remarks, Lamido charged the pioneer governing council to work hard and justify the conference reposed on them.
The governor, who reflected on the importance of education to the overall development of humanity, said his administration embarked on the project of setting off own university based on the need of the state on critical sectors of its economy.


He maintained that JSU, students would become a beacon of the development of the state and Nigeria.
Rasheed in his acceptance speech, said JSU was one innovation that would stand the test of time, applauding the courage and foresight of the governor.
Rasheed posited that the university had started on the right foot by producing a well-detailed academic brief and excellent structures built in the university by the government, therefore assured that they would continued to build on the work of implementation committee which according him has done a remarkable job.
He said his areas of focus as chairman was diversification of source of funding, and set policies as well as assist the management on their implementation for the overall development of the university in terms of academic excellence driven by the global best practices.
The chairman therefore assured Lamido of his commitment and dedication on the projects, saying he would perform his duties meticulously, with sense of responsibility and efficiency.
He also commended the governor for the confidence reposed on his council, promising that the council would work in consonance with the dream of its founding father, Lamido.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Haruna Wakili, who a gave the detailed history of the university, said it was conceived to address the deplorable state of education, teachers shortage, manpower need and eradication of poverty.
Wakili, who chairs the implementation committee, pointed out that the JSU Kafin Hausa was envisaging to start with three facilities and have 20 years maturity time of 20 faculties, 59 departments and 129 programmes.
The commissioner also maintained that the university would among others things be ICT and entrepreneurial driven and therefore commended Lamido for his support to the project.
