MTN Gets Reprieve ?On $5.2b Fine

Telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria, on Monday said it got a reprieve for the payment of the $5.2 billion (N1.004 trillion fine imposed on it by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), whose deadline expired on that date (November 16).
A statement by MTN said the reprieve followed a meeting by its South African based Group Executive chairman?, Phuthuma Nhleko? with the NCC officials.

Governors To Buhari: We Must Diversify Economy


Against the backdrop of the present dwindling international price of oil, the 36 state governors, yesterday, told President Muhammadu Buhari that if Nigeria must be one of the top economies of the world, there was the urgent need for the diversification of the economy.
The governors, who operate under the aegis of Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, said that diversification would help boost the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, base of the country.

No Diversion Of Public Funds Under Buhari’s Administration – Mohammed

The Federal Government on Monday dismissed the alleged fraud in the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the rumoured diversion of the TSA funds to bankroll elections in Bayelsa and Kogi.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Segun Adeyemi, in Abuja on Monday,described the allegation as a contrived distraction.
Mohammed said if those behind the accusation had allowed themselves some measure of honesty, they would have realised that there had not and there would be no such impunity under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

S’East APC: Biafra Agitation Will Scuttle Igbo Presidency

In reaction to the spate of mass action by Pro-Biafra agitators, South-East All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and similar groups to stop their war drum, as it could scuttle the quest for Nigeria president of Igbo extraction in 2023.
Spokesman of South-East APC Leadership Caucus, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, made the appeal in a statement on Sunday.
Part of the statement reads: “Whereas we agree that there is gross unemployment, discontent and despondency among youths in the land; however it is not peculiar to the South East alone. The gross unemployment is nationwide and would be addressed holistically; luckily our son distinguished senator Chris Ngige is the minister in charge of employment” Okechukwu said.

Boko Haram, ISIS responsible for more than half of World’s deaths from terrorism – study



The number of people killed globally in terrorist attacks jumped 80 percent last year to the highest level ever recorded, the Institute for Economics and Peace said Tuesday.
The study defines terrorism as “the threatened or actual use of illegal force and violence by a non-state actor to attain a political, economic, religious, or social goal through fear, coercion, or intimidation”.The Global Terrorism Index found that 32,658 people were killed by terrorists in 2014, up from the 18,111 fatalities of the previous year, the largest increase on record.
