After successfully negotiating their way past Cote D'Ivoire, Zambia,
Namibia and South Africa, Super Falcons of Nigeria have now set their
sights firmly on their seventh African Women's Championship trophy.
The 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2010 champions have hit form
just at the right time and for Evelyn Nwabuoku and company, this is a
golden opportunity to win the trophy once again.
With 14 goals in four matches, Nigeria have impressed almost
everyone at this year's AWC, and many pundits strongly believe they will
carry that momentum into match-day on Saturday.
Edwin Edem Okon and his wards are not interested in all the
analyses, predictions and criticisms. They are looking to perform and
deliver on Saturday by playing their possessive kind of football,
winning in that familiar style of theirs and making sure that they
dominate the physical Cameroonians.
The Falcons are aware it’s going to be a tough final and they
could be given a nasty shock if they underestimate Cameroon. But the
six-time champions are too experienced to fall into this trap.
Nigeria seem formidable, but Ngachu Enow’s ladies will not be looking them straight in the face and yielding out on the turf.
Edging past Cote D'Ivoire at extra time has given the Indomitable
Lionesses extra motivation and drive and that will be their secret
weapon against Nigeria in the final.
No training session injury was announced as at Press Time.
Therefore, the two teams are in the form of their lives to entertain the
world audience in the final of the 9th African Women's Championship on
Saturday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
The game will get underway by 19h00 Nigerian Time.
